Drinkbox Studios recently announced that its Severed game is poised to land on iOS, Nintendo 3DS and Wii U this summer.

The news was revealed at this year's E3 and via Twitter, saying:

iOS Launch

The game will soon arrive on iOS devices, allowing Apple users to have this fun game in their back pocket.

Of course, chances are you have already heard of and even played Severed, a monster-killing, fast-paced game. So, why exactly is this iOS launch important?

It is because Severed was originally a PlayStation Vita exclusive. So, basically, if you wanted to play the game, you're going to have to do so through the Vita gaming console. The problem is that, according to those who actually managed to play the game, the Vita is not the ideal platform for playing Severed.

Of course, that's not what Drinkbox is saying. According to Graham Smith, co-founder of the game developer, Severed was actually well-received through the Vita-exclusive release.

"The game's recent release on the Vita was well-received by critics and fans alike, and we look forward to bringing the experience to Apple and Nintendo fans," says Smith.

Based on what Smith has to say, it appears as though the company is simply trying to expand this game.

Nintendo and Wii U

Severed will also be rolled out for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U — each launch practically on top of the other. Incidentally, the 3DS and Wii U are also touchscreen consoles — which means players can make use of all the bells and whistles of this first-person dungeon crawler through these gaming consoles.

Of course, those who previously played Severed through the Sony handheld will find a few tweaks with this new release. Taking into account the new consoles where it will be played, the developers promised some changes and said that the graphics will be further beefed-up. What really clinches the deal, however, is the Off TV Play feature, which lets gamers continue playing the game even if someone else grabs the TV.

If you are one of the lucky people who happen to have both the Wii U and 3DS, you will only have to buy the game once. The studio will allow for cross-buy support so that, with one purchase, you will be able to play the game on both gaming consoles, depending on which one is available for you. Obviously, the same cannot be said of Apple purchases. iPhone and iPad users have to make a separate purchase through Apple's App Store in order to enjoy the game.

At the moment, there's no word from the studio yet as to the exact release date for the said title, although reports state that the company is promising a summer release. As for the price, well, details are still scarce right now.

We'll be sure to keep you in the loop, though, as soon as additional news becomes available.
